Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery is still said to be looking to let Leander Dendoncker go in January after trying to sell him in the summer.

It has been a great season so far for Aston Villa which sees them currently occupy third place in the Premier League.

Under the management of Unai Emery, the Villans have become a great team and the squad as a whole has improved.

With that being said, the Spaniard has often been reluctant to make too many changes to his starting XI from game to game. This has allowed for them to be very consistent which has played its part as a record-breaking home run has gone on.

Following wins over Manchester City and Arsenal, praise has been heaped on the club for their form so far this campaign. Although this may be the case, there are still some names that have been linked with moves away from B6.

What has been said about Leander Dendoncker?

This season has been a difficult one for Leander Dendoncker who had featured in just seven Premier League minutes prior to the Arsenal win.

The Belgian signed for Villa from Wolves at the beginning of last season for £12.9m on a contract worth £90k-a-week. In that time has made just 31 appearances with most of those coming off the bench. He has performed well at times such as the emphatic win over Newcastle United towards the end of last season.

After a lack of minutes last season, the summer saw Emery look to let him go. This is potentially due to him not being in the Spaniard’s plans. No move came to pass and he remained in B6 and has made ten appearances in all competitions.

With that being said, David Ornstein has suggested that the January window may pose yet another opportunity to let him go.

On that point, he said: “Emery was quite clear with the things he wanted to do. There were some players at the beginning in jeopardy over their future. And some of them have been moved out. They’ve still got some work to do in that department. I know Leander Dendonker was one they wanted to shift and didn’t manage to.”

This seems to point towards an exit for the Belgian this winter but there has been a lack of links away for him so far. Dendoncker also came on against Arsenal and played his part as all three points were sealed at Villa Park.

Given that he came on last time out, it is unclear as to whether he will leave in the upcoming window. If reports are to be believed then this does seem likely.
