Following Aston Villa’s win over Arsenal, they broke a long-standing club record of 15 consecutive home wins. How many do they need to break the Premier League record?
It has been a great season for Aston Villa which has seen them maintain their excellent form from the second half of last season.
Following the hiring of Unai Emery, things have gone from strength to strength for the Villans which sees them currently sit in third place.
With wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in the past week, Villa have cemented their place in the top four. They are now in a title race conversation with nearly half of the season played.

The foundation of this push up the Premier League table has been the terrific home form that has been shown in the past 10 months.
Aston Villa’s Home Form
It has been a consistent problem amongst Villa fans in years gone by that the home form hasn’t been good enough. With 45 wins in the last six Premier League seasons combined, this averages out at 7.5 home wins per season. By comparison, the Villans have already won eight this season, which smashes that average.
With those eight being added to by seven wins at Villa Park to end last campaign, Emery’s side broke the club record this week.
It is safe to say that there has been some routine wins on the way to this record months gone by. The run started back in March of this year with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. This was followed by wins over Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.
The first of the Villans’ impressive wins came against Newcastle United in a 3-0 thrashing in April. Wins over Fulham, Tottenham and Brighton saw out the season and secured Europa Conference League football.
This season the wins have been tougher as a general rule. It started with wins over Everton and Palace before a 6-1 demolition of Brighton. This was followed by another hammering as West Ham were dispatched, 4-1.
Wins over Luton and Fulham came after this and saw wins over Manchester City and Arsenal needed to break a club record.
These wins were achieved by Emery’s men as he got the better of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta in back-to-back games. This broke a club record and secured Villa’s 15th win in 15 Premier League home games.
With that being said, what do Villa need to break the league record?
Premier League home wins record
The win over Arsenal saw Villa go level for the fourth-best home run in Premier League history. This winning run was set by Man City earlier this year and was ended in November.

The third best is Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in a run that was set between October 2010 and 2011. 19 wins on the bounce sees them sit in third in the record books.
Second place is yet another City side, this time between 2011 and 2012. This was done in the season they won their first Premier League, in which their home form was a huge factor.
The current record holders are Liverpool who also went on to win the league not long after. Their run of 24 matches is unprecedented and will be tough to beat. Villa will need another nine wins to tie the record and ten to make the record their own. This would see them need to win all of their home games for the rest of the campaign.
The club record has been broken which will mean a lot to Emery and his players. The league record is a long while off so there will be no pressure on that.
