Stan Collymore wants Unai Emery to ‘consider’ signing departed Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea for Aston Villa.
The former Aston Villa striker expressed his worry at Emi Martinez’s future and how it is ‘far from assured’, as he told Caught Offside.
In the fear that Villa’s current number one shot stopper heads for the exit door, then Collymore wants de Gea to be brought in.
After over a decade of service to Manchester United, the 45-cap Spain international headed for the exit door when his contract expired in July.
In what was Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge, de Gea produced a number of error-prone performances, hence why he was reluctant to keep him on.
Despite those issues the 32-year-old has faced, Collymore explained why he would work under the stewardship of Villa’s thriving man on the sidelines.

“The end of David De Gea’s time at Manchester United was really sad to see,” said Collymore. “I am not sure United handled the situation as well as they could have done.
“If he wants to stay in the Premier League, I would like Unai Emery to consider him. Emi Martinez’s Aston Villa future is far from assured, so if he does leave, Emery, who is obviously a compatriot of De Gea and a person the former United number will know well, may look at the situation and think the 32-year-old is a suitable replacement.”

Villa need to do everything to keep hold of Martinez
A World Cup winner in Qatar back in November, it’s understandable if Martinez now wants to take his game to the highest of levels on the domestic stage.
That’s Champions League football, the ultimate for club footballers and the one that can earn you legendary status.
There’s no doubt that Martinez is more than good enough for that level, but for now, he should stay put in B6, see where Emery takes this speeding Villa train and then make that call about his future.
If in 12 months, the Midlands side aren’t in the Champions League, then the fans would understand their star goalkeeper looking to move on.
Plus, Villa would demand serious, serious cash for their player, and not many would be willing to pay that now.
And even if Martinez does leave, replacing him with de Gea is a big no, no. That man is on the decline and there aren’t any signs that it will stop.
