A transfer development at Manchester United could have a significant impact on Aston Villa in the near future.

Aston Villa are currently flying in the Premier League, sitting in fourth position after nine matches played.

While Unai Emery’s men were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, excitement still circulates Villa Park, especially with the transfer window close to opening.

Villa are still looking to add a centre-back and winger to their squad in January but there is one previous target who they could now cross off the list.

Man Utd transfer rumours: Ruben Amorim wants to sign Aston Villa target

It’s been a whirlwind of a few days for Manchester United, who dismissed Erik ten Hag, announced Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim manager and are now close to hiring Ruben Amorim as the Dutchman’s successor.

The Sporting Lisbon boss is set to take over as the new manager of Man United and the Portuguese tactician could raid his former club.

The subject of Aston Villa comes into play as TEAMtalk have outlined three players he could bring to Old Trafford, including one of Emery’s previous targets.

Villa were interested in signing Sporting attacking midfielder Pedro Goncalves during the summer, who commanded a release clause of £68 million.

Goncalves, formerly of Wolves, is one of Europe’s most talented players, recording an eye-watering 137 goal involvements in 187 appearances for Sporting.

It’s clear to see why Emery wanted to sign him at Villa in the summer and why Amorim could link back up with the 26-year-old once he arrives at Man United.

Aston Villa don’t need Pedro Goncalves

Although Goncalves is incredibly talented, Villa can’t afford to pay his £68 million asking price and already have a plethora of options out wide and in the number 10; the two positions he plays.

Morgan Rogers has been ‘unplayable’ at times this term, combining his freakish upper body strength and incredible acceleration with dynamite in the final third.

Rogers is also joined by academy graduate Jacob Ramsey, who is returning to the form he showed in the 2022/23 campaign before his long-term injury.

That doesn’t even include winger Leon Bailey, who is currently out of form, and the likes of Jaden Philogene and captain John McGinn.

With the number of quality attacking options and the pressing need to sign a centre-back instead, it isn’t the end of the world if Goncalves joins Man United, as Villa are doing just fine without him.
