Former Wimbledon and Bournemouth striker, Efan Ekoku has made a joke at Calum Chambers’ expense when discussing an historic goal.

So far this season, Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers has suffered with a lack of game time.

Against Legia Warsaw, Unai Emery brought him into the fold but he performed poorly in a 3-2 loss away from home.

Since then he hasn’t played a minute, leading to reports he will leave when his contract expires.

What has Efan Ekoku said about Calum Chambers?

Ekoku is a former striker who spent 164 goals in 335 appearances across various top English clubs.

He played for Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford amongst many others.

Since retiring, he has gone on to be a pundit and commentator with Premier League Predictions and TNT Sports. He also hosts a BBC World Service podcast called Match of the Day Top 10.

When asked about the best goals scored by African players in the Premier League, Sadio Mane against Arsenal was his number 10 choice.

On that, he said: “At number 10 I’ve got Sadio Mane against Arsenal in 2016.

“I remember that goal, as an Arsenal fan, he ran past Calum Chambers”

The goal was back towards the start of Chambers’ Arsenal career and has since moved to Villa on a free transfer.

The former striker wasn’t complimentary of the Villains defender: “I could run past Calum Chambers, even now, please, come on, let’s be serious.”

A strange dig at a player whom Ekoku never even played against. Although his defending wasn’t the greatest, the show was called ‘Top 10 Goals’.

With the Englishman having a slow start to the season, the last thing he needs is to be called out for something from seven years ago.

Definitely unnecessary and let’s hope Chambers can refind some form like he did a season or two ago.
