Aston Villa’s first signing of the summer, Lewis Dobbin, has been sent out on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.
Dobbin was one of many players to have joined Unai Emery’s squad this summer. The winger left Premier League side Everton to make the switch to Villa Park in late June.
Since then, Emery has not rested, with multiple players joining the Villa squad ahead of their upcoming Champions League campaign.
As a result, the upcoming season will likely have a highly competitive squad, with many players fighting for a place in the first team.
Now, recent developments mean that Dobbin will not be taking part in Villa’s upcoming campaign. Instead, he has been sent out on loan to get some much-needed game time and experience.

Lewis Dobbin joins West Midlands rivals West Brom on loan

It has now been confirmed that Dobbin will spend the 2024/25 campaign in the Championship with West Midlands rivals West Brom.
The winger is yet to play in England’s second tier with his only experience outside the Premier League being a loan spell at Derby County in League One in the 2022/23 campaign.
Dobbin is excited about the challenge as he aims to take the Baggies back to the top flight.
Speaking on the move he said: “I’m really happy to be here. It’s the perfect opportunity to get first-team minutes and show what I can do.
“I’ve heard a lot about the Championship and I know it’s a tough, competitive league. I’m ready for it, though. I really want to show what I’m about.
“I like to excite the fans and get them out of their seats. I love to score goals and create goals, so hopefully I can do lots of that here this season.”

A sensible move for Unai Emery and Aston Villa
Realistically, Dobbin was not getting much game time in the upcoming campaign. Both Leon Bailey and Morgan Rogers are ahead of the 21-year-old in the pecking order.
A move to the Championship will no doubt give the winger plenty of experience and could put him on the same path as Rogers who was in the second tier for the first half of last season.
The loan also might open up an opportunity for another potential signing for Emery if he feels the need to reinforce his attacking areas even more.
