Football is a funny old game and Jhon Duran has just proved that at Aston Villa.

Only a few months ago, Aston Villa fans were happy to see the back of Duran amid talk of him wanting to leave and transfer interest from other clubs.

It seemed as though West Ham wanted to sign Duran, but they wouldn’t cough up the money those in the Midlands wanted for their impatient striker.

But then, on the opening day of the new Premier League season, Duran is scoring the winner for Aston Villa against West Ham.

Since then, the 20-year-old has exploded and has scored winning goal after winning goal for the club, including when Villa beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

But it has got even better for the Villa Park faithful because, on Monday morning, the club announced on Twitter that Duran has signed a new long-term contract.

This is music to the ears of supporters, and dare it be said, given that it has been such a historic week, this is the best news of the lot.

This keeps the interested parties away and now Unai Emery has two incredible strikers to work with – Duran and the main striker, Ollie Watkins.

When the news broke of Duran’s new contract, Ian Taylor was quick to share his thoughts on Twitter and he was delighted by the news.

Unai Emery helping transform Jhon Duran

This is one of the best calls Duran has made and it will help progress his career even further, mainly because of Emery.

Emery is a genius at improving players, just look at where this Villa squad was before he joined and where they are now.

Duran just needs to be patient, and it seems as though he is now learning to do that, and then the rewards will come.

The battle between Watkins and Duran for a starting spot is healthy for both, but most importantly, it allows Villa to remain a huge threat.
