Transfer deadline day is fast approaching and Aston Villa will be keen to add further additions to their first-team squad.

Aston Villa have been one of the Premier League’s most active clubs this summer as they prepare for the Champions League.

Seven new players have arrived through the doors at Villa Park, including Amadou Onana from Everton, as Unai Emery armed his side with quality in most positions.

With only a week of the window remaining, there are still gaps in his squad that the Spaniard would like to plug, as a versatile defender, winger and striker are all on the agenda.

A busy summer promises to deliver supporters a frantic ending as the Villans attempt to add new faces to an already competitive squad.

Raheem Sterling

On Wednesday, it emerged that Villa were monitoring a shock move for Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.

Sterling, a four-time Premier League title-winner with Manchester City, has been banished from first-team training at Stamford Bridge, potentially opening the door for Villa to strike.

The scorer of over 100 Premier League goals, the 29-year-old would add significant experience to one of the division’s youngest squads, especially on the European stage.

The jet-heeled winger has appeared 82 times in the Champions League and produced an impressive 44 goal involvements.

For Villa to land Sterling ahead of their top-flight rivals, it would be a major coup for the club, although it remains to be seen if it’s financially possible as the winger earns a whopping £325k-a-week at Chelsea.

Lutsharel Geertuida

Despite conceding 61 goals in the Premier League last season, the Villans have surprisingly neglected their defence this summer and it could cost them in the long run.

Depth at centre-back is currently a real issue, with only Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos as senior options to select from.

Villa are in the market for someone versatile, who can compete for a spot in the middle or at right-back and Lutsharel Geertuida is the perfect candidate.

The Feyenoord defender has attracted significant interest this summer, with Geetruida reportedly available for around £30 million.

That could be a steal for a player, who at the age of 24, would only improve under Emery and provide him with a player he desperately needs to resolve his defensive concerns.

Samu Omorodion

In the late stages of this transfer window, Aston Villa could sign a new striker to compete with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran at the top end of the pitch.

Reports have linked Villa with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion, with the club willing to pay £30 million to land his signature.

Omorodion looked set to join Chelsea earlier in the window but a move fell through and they’ve since signed the Villans top target Joao Felix.

The 20-year-old netted eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances for Deportivo Alaves last term and would be an exciting proposition to have alongside their current options.

Surprisingly, Emery going in for the Spanish under-21 international doesn’t impact the future of Duran, who looks set to stay at Aston Villa.

Jhon Duran staying will be big for Aston Villa

Whilst signing an ‘imposing’ striker in the mould of Omorodion would be big, it’s arguably even bigger for Villa if they keep Duran.

The powerful Colombian looked set to leave Villa Park earlier in the window, as West Ham launched a bid that was rejected, while Chelsea showed interest.

Despite alienating the fanbase with an ‘irons’ gesture in response to the West Ham rumours, Duran has returned to the fans good books after scoring the winner against the club that wanted to sign him.

Emery believes the 20-year-old’s childish actions were perfectly normal as he was frustrated over a lack of time. Indeed, the Spaniard wants to keep the young striker and that is massive given his huge potential.
