Aston Villa have been suggested as a team that should try and sign Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal in the upcoming January window.

It has been a great start to the season for Aston Villa with them currently sitting in the top four in the Premier League.

Under the management of Unai Emery, the Villans have become serious contenders for the Champions League places.

With that being said there have been some issues in the way of injuries for the Spaniard to contend with. Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia were out for the season anyway. There have been additional long-term problems for Alex Moreno and Jacob Ramsey have been frustrating.

The January transfer window will provide the opportunity for the Villans to bring in reinforcements in all areas on the pitch. An attacking option is the first to be linked this week.

What has Dean Jones said about Emile Smith Rowe?

Emile Smith Rowe is a man who has been linked to Villa many times in the past but has opted to stay with the Gunners. This hasn’t gone as the Englishman would have liked as he has been limited to very few appearances.

Speaking with Give Me Sport, Dean Jones has opened up about the Arsenal man. This and how he thinks he would make a good signing at Villa Park.

On that, he said: “Smith Rowe to Villa would be an interesting one to test out. Because he’s still not getting a look in at Arsenal.

“He could look across at Villa and think it’s pretty exciting. He could be a bigger part of it there than at the Emirates. So, it would be enticing for the player at some point. A team like Villa might be the one that proves to tempt him.”

With that being said, he wouldn’t be guaranteed a start for the Villans so would he want to move? That is unclear right now.

He would suit the tactical style under Emery in one of the wide midfield roles or even as a second striker. With Nicolo Zaniolo out of form right now, it could make sense to bring Smith Rowe in. Although with the cost Arsenal would likely demand, it might not be worth it, especially on £40k-a-week.

There are positives and negatives to signing Smith Rowe and there is no doubt that he possesses quality. Given his lack of football in recent years he would pose a risk and that may not be taken by Villa in January.
