Sunderland’s academy has been highly successful over recent years. England’s current number one Jordan Pickford played at the Stadium of Light before his switch to Everton.

The Black Cats also boast England Under 17 captain Chris Rigg in their ranks who is a regular in their first team.

Now, Villa looks to capitalise on Sunderland’s upcoming talents by poaching a promising young striker.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have reportedly made an offer for Mason Cotcher. The 17-year-old plays for England at youth level and was previously pursued by Arsenal, Rangers and Leeds.

Recently, Cotcher has been training at Villa and has impressed for the youth sides.

Mason Cotcher would be another great Aston Villa signing

While it may take years for him to become a first-teamer, Cotcher would be an excellent signing for Villa.

The striker scored 12 times in the U18 Premier League in 31 games as well as picked up two assists.

With Cotcher already training with Villa, it would likely be a seamless transition for the attacker as he looks to progress his career.

Emery has put a lot of emphasis on the youth since he joined the club and additional signings to boost the academy will only make it stronger.
