Aston Villa are in a race with other Premier League clubs to sign Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe in the January transfer window.

The England under-21 international has made a great impression so far this season, seeing Premier League rumours growing.

With Crystal Palace also showing interest in the young winger, Villa have a battle on their hands to secure his signature.

He signed a contract extension with the Canaries in January 2022 and as a result, is contracted until 2025.

Who is Jonathan Rowe?

Although he came to the limelight this season, the winger has made over 30 appearances for City across two years.

In 11 games this campaign, he has six goals and an assist which has seen his stock rise considerably.

His start to the season caught the eye as he scored in each of his opening four games, contributing to a great start for the Canaries.

He has been utilised as a left winger so far this season. He does have the ability to play off the right-hand side if needed.

Rowe has been with Norwich since 2014 and made his first team debut in 2021, while the club were in the Premier League.

12 appearances in the top division shows he has experience and is only going to get better as he gets more.

Should Aston Villa sign him?

He is a good young player and it is about time the Villains took advantage of the Championship.

This one is odd. Not odd because of Rowe, odd because the club sold Jaden Philogene-Bidace over the summer.

Although Philogene is a year older, he was a homegrown talent and was somebody who caught the eye over preseason.

They are both England youth internationals. Ironically, manager Lee Cardsley compared the two: “He’s a player who is in form along with Jaden Philogene.

“They’re full of confidence. It gives players that aren’t involved in England teams a bit of hope because our recruitment and scouting is massive.”

Rowe would definitely be a fun and interesting signing. It just seems strange given the sale of Philogene, given the comparison.
