Aston Villa may have had their chances of signing Nico Williams increased as it has been reported contract discussions with Athletic Club have stalled.

In the past year, Aston Villa have been consistently linked to signing Spain and Athletic Bilbao star, Nico Williams.

It has been made clear that he is a top target of Unai Emery and as a result, the Villans have been rumoured to be interested again.

It seemed as if a move could be off as there were reports that the LaLiga outfit were set to offer a long-term contract.

This is yet to happen and as a result, Villa may reignite their interest and give the Spaniard something to consider.

What has been said about Nico Williams?

According to El Correo, via Sports Witness, Athletic Club are trying to sort a new contract but there is ‘still a way to go’.

This will give many clubs, including the Villans, that they may be able to land the Spaniard on a cheap fee in January.

In spite of the reports, the Basque side are still trying to forge out a new deal.

It has been said: “In a few months the contract will end, let us not forget. There is no definitive offer from the club or the player.

“The club must listen to the player and must try to reach an agreement that is good for both parties. Always starting from the basis that the contract ends in a few months so that we do not forget. The club knows what the player’s approach is, what he wants.”

This seems to point towards a difference in what the player is demanding and what the club are willing to offer.

With Premier League and European football being able to be offered by the Villains, increased wages will also be likely.

If the Spanish club can’t agree on terms then Villa have to pounce and sign the man they have been after forever.
