Unai Emery has overseen another departure this summer as Cameron Archer permanently moves on from Villa Park.

The striker had come through Villa’s academy and was a local lad after being born in Walsall.

After multiple successful loans, the 22-year-old was sold to Sheffield United last summer but was unable to prevent the Blades’ relegation.

As a result, Villa brought Archer back to the club earlier this window due to a clause in his contract that was activated due to their poor finish.

However, his stay at Villa Park has not lasted long, as Archer has now been sold to Southampton

Aston Villa fans hopeful that Cameron Archer’s move means a striker is on the way

Throughout recent weeks, it has become clear that Villa wants to reinforce their attacking depth. Emery’s side has constantly been linked to Joao Felix, however, nothing has developed from these rumours. On top of this, Villa were linked to Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta

Now, after Archer’s departure, Villa only have two natural strikers in Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran.

Therefore, this has sparked hope across the Villa fanbase on social media that a new attacker will soon be on their way to the club.

On top of this, many feel that the touted £15 million for Archer is ‘great business’ for the club.

Aston Villa must now find a striker before deadline day

Now that Archer has departed, a new striker must make their way to Villa Park sooner rather than later.

The club cannot compete in both the Premier League and the Champions League with only two senior strikers.

Therefore, they must pursue another backup to Watkins, or even an attacker who is versatile enough to comfortably play as a central striker.

Emery no doubt has players already in mind to complete this task, however, they must act quickly to put the club in the best possible position.
