Aston Villa have once again been linked to Sporting Lisbon star Geny Catamo with other Premier League clubs also showing interest.

In the past week, Aston Villa have been rumoured to want Geny Catamo who has spent a loan spell with Vitoria.

The links haven’t gone away and Unai Emery’s former club Arsenal are also looking into the signing of the winger.

There are links with other Premier League teams floating around with Premier League toppers Tottenham also sniffing around.

This is all according to Steve Kay of Football Transfers who is reporting that interest from North London is emerging.

Why do Premier League teams want Geny Catamo?

Well his ability on the ball, he is gaining attention from his own club as well as clubs across Europe.

It is safe to say he is rated with Kay referring to him as ‘a wonderkid’ and given the clubs after him, it is hard to disagree.

So far this season the Mozambique international has registered two goal involvements in nine starts.

Although this may not sound too impressive, he has been utilised in various positions, given his versatility.

He can play anywhere down the right, from wing-back to forward. He has plenty of ability to cover a varied number of roles.

Should Aston Villa sign him?

This may be one for the summer, more so than in the January transfer window. With that being said, Jhon Duran was signed last winter.

With Nicolo Zaniolo currently at the club on loan, the need for another wide midfielder may not be wholly necessary.

If he were to sign in the summer, he could be a great player for that wide-right role in Emery’s system.

The ability to dovetail with Matty Cash in attack and defence could make Villa a much better defensive unit. Even with how good they have been this year.

With so much interest in his signature, there is likely to be a high price tag that comes with him.

Even if this is the case, he could be well worth a go in Claret and Blue.
