Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton, who marks the club’s seventh arrival of the summer.

It’s been an exceptionally busy summer so far for Unai Emery and Monchi, who have sanctioned a number of deals at Aston Villa

The transfer window has seen seven new faces arrive at the club, with former Everton midfielder Amadou Onana being the latest to walk through the doors at Bodymoor Heath.

It’s a strong signing for Villa, who have been seeking midfield reinforcements after losing Douglas Luiz as the Belgian arrives with a high Premier League reputation.

Amadou Onana says Youri Tielemans played a big part in his move to Aston Villa

Followers of the Premier League will be aware of the strength and power that Onana holds, with one Villa player having a better insight than most.

Youri Tielemans often partners the £50m signing in Belgium’s midfield, with the duo possessing a strong partnership to now translate at Villa Park.

The former Everton ace admitted that Tielemans played a part in his decision to join Villa, following his countryman just a year after he arrived at the club himself.

In an interview with VillaTV, Onana opened up about a conversation he’d had with the ex-Leicester City star in the build-up to his move to B6.

“Youri played a big part in me being here because he told me lots of good stuff about the club.

“I’m looking forward to training with him on a daily basis. He’s someone who’s got the experience to help and guide me throughout the whole process.”

Having signed for Villa in the summer of 2023, Tielemans has experienced both ups and downs during his first year working with Emery, possessing knowledge that he can now share with Onana.

Villa fans should be excited by the partnership of Onana and Tielemans

The combination of Tielemans and Onana works so well in the Belgium squad due to the pair’s opposing skill sets.

While the 6 foot 4 frame of Onana is a combative force to be reckoned with in the engine room, Tielemans has the progressive instinct to move play upfield, making for the perfect partnership.

During Euro 2024, the Villa pair were praised by outlet 7sur7 for their ability to combine for their country when playing in a midfield pivot.

“His [Onana’s] complementarity with Tielemans is much more obvious than with Mangala. His role in recovery was well defined this time and the Everton player excelled in the duel.”

It’s a particularly exciting capture for Villa, not only due to Onana’s chemistry with Tielemans, but also due to what fans have seen of him in the Premier League over the years with Everton.

Emery has finally got his man this summer, as Villa can now look towards how they will set up in midfield, with the Belgian being the missing piece to the puzzle.
