Lucas Digne is set to join OGC Nice on a season long loan with a deal nearly agreed between the sides.
It had been reported that Villa were looking to sell the left back to ease any wage bill concerns.
Despite a move being “near”, according to Bruna Reis, the 30-year-old was excellent in a 4-0 win against Everton.
Fabrice Hawkins has suggested that an agreement over salary is being discussed with both parties ‘confident’ of a deal.
With links to Marcos Acuna and Nuno Tavares, there is contingencies if Digne is to leave.
New signing, Pau Torres, has the capability to play at left back which is the likely option until a replacement comes in.
Should Aston Villa sell Lucas Digne?
Based on his performance against Everton, he seems like an important player in the Villa team.
According to Sportrac, Digne is Villa’s highest paid player, earning over £160,000 a week.

With players such as Ollie Watkins, Douglas Luiz and Tyrone Mings on less than £100,000, it puts that into perspective.
Villa spent £30 million on his signature plus an additional £38 million over a five year deal.
As the club looks to move forward, that amount on a player that isn’t garunteed a start, that is too much.
Despite good performances since joining the club, he hasn’t set the world alight and may be worth cutting ties.
