The transfer window is now closed, but with injuries and some gaps in the squad, there could be some free agents that could plug those gaps.
The Villains’ transfer window was top tier, bringing in top talents Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres, Nicolo Zaniolo and Youri Tielemans.
This happened while letting go of plenty of talent.
Youth academy products were the main losses, with Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene, Keinan Davis and Aaron Ramsey all departing.
Looking at the squad following the window, there are three areas which free agent signings could help bolster.
Goalkeeper, Forward and a defender wouldn’t go a miss for Unai Emery’s side, just for insurance.
Should Aston Villa sign David De Gea?
Manchester United’s number one for over ten years, winning a Premier League, multiple League and FA Cups in that time.
Somehow, David De Gea hasn’t found himself a home for the season after his departure from Old Trafford.
Although he had an up and down campaign, last time out, he clearly still possesses bags of ability.
With a 45% of his games last season resulting in clean sheets, he is very adept at keeping the ball out of the net.

The question is, would a keeper with the pedigree of De Gea be happy as a number two?
With Emiliano Martinez already missing games through injury this year a top class second choice goalkeeper is needed, no offense to Robin Olsen.
With Conference League and two cup competitions, game time wouldn’t be low on the ground.
The elephant in the room is that with the ball at his feet, he can be a worry.
That being said, Villa’s Swedish shot stopper is the same and gets plenty of game time.
This signing would be a hell of a statement, but De Gea may prefer a move to a lesser team in order to play first team minutes.
Should Aston Villa sign Eden Hazard?
The forward line has suffered with the loss of Emi Buendia and sale of Archer this season.
With Diaby the only forward coming in this window, another option could be handy for Emery’s squad.
Although a striker could be preferable, the options wouldn’t match up to the squad with Eden Hazard offering more.

Everybody knows Hazard and what he offers.
Despite his injury troubles, which have hampered his career since leaving Chelsea, there is obviously a top class player there.
On a free transfer there is less risk there, a move could go either way but may be worth a punt.
Should Aston Villa sign Axel Tuanzebe?
Another man Villa fans will know all about.
You can’t help but think of Lip up Fatty by Bad Manners when you see his name and could the chant return?

With Tyrone Mings out, Diego Carlos seeming prone to an injury and Matty Cash playing as a midfielder, a versatile defender could be useful.
Axel Tuanzebe can play as a centre back or right back, much like Ezri Konsa and Callum Chambers, and would offer depth.
Although he may not be at the level Villa are striving towards, with three cup competitions and the Premier League, a hefty squad will be needed.
A man with prior experience of the squad, with less time needed to settle in, this could be a clever signing on a free.
