One Aston Villa star could now stay at Villa Park ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as AC Milan retract their interest.
Aston Villa’s squad is set to look a lot different in the upcoming 2024/25 season, as Unai Emery and Monchi continue to navigate their way around the transfer window.
So far, the duo have welcomed six new faces, with Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam, Omari Kellyman and Viljami Sinisalo leaving on a permanent basis.
Further departures are expected, as Moussa Diaby and Jhon Duran’s futures remain in doubt however, one player now looks set to stay at Villa Park.

AC Milan no longer want to sign Matty Cash from Aston Villa as Tottenham player becomes priority target
Earlier in the summer, it was reported that AC Milan were interested in Matty Cash as the Serie A giants hunt for a new right-sided defender.
The reports hinted that Milan were reluctant to pay Villa’s £30m price tag for the Poland international, which has ultimately concluded their pursuit of the 26-year-old.
This week, CaughtOffside have reported that Milan are ready to ‘walk away’ from their hopes of signing Cash, putting Tottenham defender Emerson Royal ahead of the Villa man.
The report details that Villa’s asking price is considered ‘too high’ for the seven-time Champions League winners, with a move to Serie A now highly unlikely for the right-back who was signed from Nottingham Forest in 2020 for £16m.
Pre-season activity hints that Cash will stay at Villa
The 2023/24 season was a confusing one for Cash, who despite being Villa’s only true right-back, faced a struggle to secure his spot in the starting XI under Emery.
Ezri Konsa was preferred on the right side of defence due to his strength as a defender being placed ahead of Cash’s ability to bomb forward.
While a move for Cash wouldn’t have been surprising this summer as Emery’s preference for Konsa has become clear, the Poland international’s role in pre-season so far hints at what he could offer to the boss next season.
The 26-year-old has captained Villa in the opening two pre-season friendlies against Walsall and Spartak Trnava, impressing in both showing encouraging versatility on the right flank.
Given that Villa’s options in the position remain low, it would be smart for Emery to keep hold of Cash ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with depth required as the gruelling footballing schedule approaches.
