Why does Prince William support Aston Villa after he was spotted in their 1-0 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich?
Prince William is easily Villa’s most famous fan. The future king of the United Kingdom is well known to be a Villain and is commonly seen at the games.
Recently, the Prince of Wales was seen at Villa’s 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich. Here, Prince William ‘lost his voice’ at Villa Park by the time the game had ended in a memorable match.
However, with so many other clubs to choose from, many do not know the story behind why the Prince chose to support Villa.
Therefore, Aston Villa News has delved into his past to find the exact reason why Prince William is a Villain.
Prince William didn’t want to support the usual ‘run of the mill teams’
It has no doubt been a journey of ups and downs for the Villa Park faithful. Only six years ago, they were in the Championship dreaming of returning to the Premier League.
Given there are teams who are more successful within closer proximity, the fact Prince William is a Villa fan seems a bit bizarre.
However, when Villa reached the FA Cup final in 2015, Prince William finally gave his explanation.
He told the BBC: ”A long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run of the mill teams.
“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa’s always had a great history. I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea.
“It was fantastic, I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”
Who are Aston Villa’s other famous supporters?
On top of Prince William, the club has plenty of other famous fans who attend games at Villa Park.
Another widely known supporter is American actor Tom Hanks who is well known for his roles in Toy Story and Forest Gump.
Staying in the movie industry, David Bradley also had his allegiances with Claret and Blue, with the actor known for his roles in Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.
Musicians Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Nigel Kennedy also support Villa and will no doubt be thrilled at the progress the club has made in recent years.
Finally, former Prime Minister David Cameron is also a Villain, and he has attended many matches at Villa Park over the years.
