John McGinn isn’t happy with Aston Villa’s form this season, with two losses and two wins so far in the Premier League.
An opening day defeat to Newcastle was followed up with two great wins against Everton and Burnley.
Coming into the game at Anfield, the Villains were on a high with four wins in four, across all competitions.
Losing in a poor manor to Liverpool brought fans back down to Earth in a disappoiting fashion.
That’s two defeats this season, with both being by three or more goals. That isn’t good enough and can’t continue.
It can be argued that before the season started, six points out of 12 would be acceptable, especially facing Liverpool and Newcastle.
After four games the Villains are 10th so it isn’t the end of the world, just a point of concern.
What has John McGinn said?
It is clear this topsy-turvy form isn’t what fans or players want and it needs to be sorted.
On the recent form John McGinn said: “Up and down, a bit of a rollercoaster so far, which doesn’t really suit us.”
It is clear consistency is what is demanded by the Villa squad and hopefully they can achieve it.
There is unity and strength in this squad and they will use this defeat as a springboard once again.
McGinn wanted to make sure there wasn’t another slip: “Today was a bit of a blow but we need to react the same way we did after Newcastle.
“We need to put this game in the past and show everyone how good a team we are.”
Diego Carlos went off injured, like Tyrone Mings at Newcastle, it appeared to have an effect on the players.
“It’s about character and how we on the pitch react. We lost Diego Carlos and hopefully it’s not too serious.
“Here are a lot of things going against us, injury-wise, but we’ve still got players and quality.”
International break, then Crystal Palace and Brighton, Villa have to do their upmost to bounce back, Unai Emery won’t settle for mediocrity.
