Aston Villa star, Leon Bailey has spoken out about his side’s thrashing of AZ Alkmaar and how they broke down them down.

Travelling to a side that hadn’t lost a home game since May posed a difficult task, but Aston Villa made it look easy.

Despite a slightly rotated xi, Unai Emery’s side performed well to ensure a first comfortable win of this season’s Conference League.

Goals from Bailey, Youri Tielemans, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn helped to secure a memorable win on the road.

What has Leon Bailey said?

The Jamaican had one of his best performances in a Villa shirt since his £35m move from Bayer Leverkusen.

So far this season, the winger has been superb despite a potential lack of starting minutes.

Against AZ he was awarded a 9/10 in our player ratings and was more than deserving of such a high score.

Discussing the Villains’ performance, Bailey said: “I think we played a very good game.

“We were strong from the very beginning, and we converted our chances. Playing away from home, these are the types of results you want. We worked really hard for it.”

Despite an easy-sounding result, AZ had spells throughout the game where they could be said to be the better side.

Bailey was complimentary of the opposition: “I think they are a very strong opponent. They have a good structure.

“You have to be patient. But we figured out how to get around them, and we did.”

Villa played out from the back in trademark Emery fashion and it frustrated their attack all night long. Emi Martinez could stand still on the ball for minutes at a time throughout the game.

Bailey was on top of his game and maybe pushing for a start this weekend against Luton Town.
