Reports now suggest that Aston Villa are set to offer Leon Bailey a new contract following his excellent form so far this season.
It has been a great season for all those associated with Aston Villa, there is no doubting that. Nobody could have predicted that they would be sitting in second place halfway through the season.
The impact of Unai Emery has been clear for all to see which has seen praise heaped on the Spaniard this campaign.
There have been many standout performers so far with Ollie Watkins being one of the better of a great bunch. With nine goals and eight assists, according to FotMob, he has been one of the most effective Premier League forwards.
Villa’s defence has also performed well with stars like Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa receiving their own plaudits.
There is one star who has stood out this season for his performances and given that his contract was running down, there had been some concerns. Now it appears that any worry can be pushed aside.
Leon Bailey set for contract extension
It is safe to say that Leon Bailey has been one of Villa’s best players this season. This in a surprising turn considering his underwhelming start to life at Villa Park.
According to FotMob, the Jamaican international has scored six and assisted five despite only starting eight games.
Following his recent performances there has been plenty of praise. Following his winning goal vs Manchester City, Emery heaped praise on him talking with the BBC.
On that, he said: “Leon Bailey is a very good player, and sometimes – what a player. Our challenge with him is to be consistent. He played amazingly and I will try to get him to do the same on Saturday. He was fantastic and we can enjoy it with him.”
Now the £100k-a-week man, who only has 12 months left on his contract, has been subject to interest in a new deal.
