Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery has said that he is demanding more out of star, Douglas Luiz in spite of his good performances this season.

After a great start to the season for Aston Villa, there have been many standout performers at Villa Park.

With that being said, Unai Emery is always asking for more from his squad as he looks to push further up the league.

The Villains currently find themselves in fifth place in the Premier League, above giants like Manchester United and Chelsea.

There have been some star performers with Ollie Watkins, Moussa Diaby, Ezri Konsa and also Douglas Luiz.

The latter has been called out by his manager who wants to see even more.

What has Unai Emery said about Douglas Luiz?

This season has seen Luiz break the goal-scoring record for consecutive goals at Villa Park by a midfielder. He has also become one of the club’s most important players.

Although that may be the case, while speaking to the Daily Mail Emery has suggested there is still more to come.

On the demands he has set, the Spaniard said: “I am very happy for him. I am also demanding with him. He is playing more consistently at home than away. I was speaking with him and told him he is very important for us but I also said, ‘You can do more. I am going to try and push you to do more.'”

Over the past year, he has come on leaps and bounds. This is as he finds himself playing in a position that suits him best.

Playing alongside Boubacar Kamara provides him with the security he needs to go and express himself.

Continuing on, Emery added: “I think he can take more responsibility in our build-up. Of course, he is scoring a lot of goals but he can add more assists.”

Although his goal numbers have been a positive of his game this campaign, he only has one assist so far. Considering the fact he is often over corners and free kicks, you would definitely expect that to be higher.

As the season goes on, you would expect that number to jump up, as it did last year.

The Villa boss finished by saying: “When we lost at Nottingham Forest last Sunday, I was waiting for him to do more on the ball. The matches we played at Wolves and Alkmaar were other examples of this.”

Last time out against Forest, the Brazilian was very quiet compared to his usual standards and as a result Villa struggled.

He has been very consistent this season and long may his great form continue following his international call-up.
