Aston Villa man, Emi Buendia is currently recovering from an injury sustained in pre-season. He is now using virtual reality (VR) to help aid his recovery.
It has been a great campaign so far for Aston Villa which has seen them rise up the Premier League into second place.
Under the management of Unai Emery, the Villans squad has gone from strength to strength. This is as they are now fighting on three fronts including the Europa Conference League.
With that being said, this season hasn’t been without its problems off the pitch as injuries have played their part.
Just in recent weeks, injuries to Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans have taken their toll on the side. This hasn’t necessarily impacted results but has been frustrating nonetheless.
These issues began early in the season, and even before it. Jacob Ramsey suffered an issue while on international duty and Tyrone Mings was stretchered off against Newcastle on opening day.
Another injury was Emi Buendia who has recently begun his recovery. This process has come with an interesting and unique method.

Emi Buendia using VR in his recovery
Given his form over pre-season, it came as a bitter blow for Villa fans that Buendia was set to miss the majority of the season.
In recent weeks there has been a lack of ability to break down a low block in some games. Now fans have been calling for the Argentine’s return.
His recovery has begun in recent weeks and now John Townley has reported on it for the Birmingham Mail.
On that, he said: “Buendia has been working from Bodymoor Heath with the club’s strength and conditioning team, who have been impressed by his progress. A video posted on social media shows Buendia using a virtual reality headset to help his rehabilitation process. The screen showed what looked like mannequins in front of Buendia on a training pitch.
“The use of VR in rehab is a relatively new practice and helps limb loading, balance and range of motion. Immersive VR can be used as an adjunct in rehabilitation of patients after ACL reconstruction in terms of improving their pain as well as their knee evaluation.”
Given the typical use of VR is playing games and the like, this will come as a surprise to hear what it is being used for. With that being said, it is amazing to hear of the technology that the Villans have at their disposal.
With this being in use, hopefully, Buendia can return to fitness quickly and safely. This may potentially see him involved at some point this season.
