Rio Ferdinand drops big ‘happier’ claim about ex-Aston Villa star Jack Grealish

Former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand believes that Jack Grealish was happier at Aston Villa despite winning the treble with Manchester City.

Back in 2021, Jack Grealish departed boyhood club, Aston Villa in an English club record fee of £100 million.

Since then he has won almost everything there is to win including two Premier Leagues, a Champions League and an FA Cup.

After a sticky spell following his departure, Unai Emery now has the Villans playing as well as anyone else. They now sit in fifth place with a genuine goal of Champions League football, and a less realistic title charge.

With star signings like Moussa Diaby over the summer and Leon Bailey stepping up this year, Villa have adapted to life without super Jack.

What has Rio Ferdinand said about Jack Grealish?

Over the summer, Belgian star, Jeremy Doku was linked with a move to B6 but a move never came to pass.

Villa went from their Frenchman from Bayer Leverkusen and their other target made the move to the Cityzens.

Since coming in from Rennes, the winger has captured the imagination of fans of City and football fans in general. With his pace, combined with his direct nature, he is exciting to watch.

His form this season has seen him score two and assist five in his first nine Premier League appearances.

Discussing the City situation on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “Doku is different to Jack Grealish right now.  He needs more games to say he is better, man.

“If I am Jack Grealish, I was a happier footballer on the pitch in the 90 minutes at Villa. But I am here now and I am sacrificing happiness for that winning feeling which is a feeling you cannot describe at all so that outweighs the love of football.”

It must be said that during his time at Villa Park, Grealish became one of the best players in the league and was feared by opposition.

Many Villa fans have spoken up about a potential return for the hometown hero but who knows if that could happen. As it stands he is playing second fiddle to the new exciting player and may back himself to get back into the starting XI.
