Moussa Diaby won the Aston Villa player of the month and has been discussing his start to life at Villa Park.

Diaby signed for the Villains from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer window in a deal worth over £50 million.

The Frenchman was part of a window that saw Villa sign five new players.

Pau Torres, Youri Tielemans, Nicolo Zaniolo and Clement Lenglet also came in through the doors at Bodymoor Heath.

In four Premier League games, he has scored two and also grabbed an assist.

His performances saw him voted as player of the month by Villa fans for August.

What has Moussa Diaby said?

The Frenchman has played at a high level while in Germany, and will be striving to reach that level with Villa.

Despite him wanting to succeed, he isn’t getting ahead of himself: “We have to go step by step, starting against Crystal Palace on Saturday and I hope I will score more goals and assists.”

His ambition is high however: “We want to go to the final of every competition, the Conference League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, and to be in the top five of the Premier League.”

Joining in the summer, it could have taken time to settle, but he has taken like a duck to water.

Diaby is enjoying life: “I am very happy, I have scored two goals and I’ve made one assist. I came here to play like this, to help the team with the goals and the assists.

“I hope to continue like this to help the team in the next games and in the season.”

A player of the month win isn’t all he is interested in: “It’s always nice to be player of the month, but I have to stay in this way and to play well, and to help the team.

“We know we have won two games and lost two games. It’s not so good for this club”

Long may the Frenchman’s form continue after a great start to life at Villa, he is already a fan favourite.
