Clement Lenglet is set to sign for Aston Villa on loan for the season with reports suggesting a deal is al but done.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the French defender is travelling to sign his contract after an agreement was reached.

Lenglet found the best form of his career while at Sevilla despite only being there for 18 months.

This resulted in Barcelona triggering his release clause and signing him for £35 million in 2018.

After four years at the club, Lenglet found himself out of the team. The emergence of Ronald Araujo and signings of Eric Garcia and Andreas Christiansen playing its part.

He spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur where he had established himself as a regular under Antonio Conte.

After the Italian was sacked, Lenglet found it tough to garner many minutes.

Is Clement Lenglet a good signing?

With the injury to Tyrone Mings, this signing makes complete sense.

On a season long loan, with no obligation to buy and only paying a set amount of his wages, he is a great option.

He brings experience of the Champions and Europa Leagues as Villa go on a journey into the Conference.

The Villains have now made two clever loan signings to combat long term injuries, Nicolo Zaniolo coming in following Emiliano Buendia’s injury.

He hasn’t played a lot of football in the last few years, only making 26 appearances for Tottenham in the Premier League last year.

With Pau Torres, Diego Carlos and Ezri Konsa in the same position he won’t be a garunteed starter.

Profiling very similarly to Torres, he provides great cover.

This deal is a no brainer and provides much needed squad depth at Villa Park.
