Former Villa star believes midfielders future relies on his ‘versatility’

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that Leander Dendoncker should be sold by Aston Villa despite the versatility he offers.

Agbonlahor made 341 appearances for the Villains over a 13 year period seeing plenty of highs and lows.

Despite never scoring more than 13 goals in a single Premier League season, the Englishman is the Villa top scorer in the history of the league.

With this he is a Villa legend, although he did lose some admiration during the clubs relegation season.

What has Gabriel Agbonlahor said about Leander Dendoncker?

The midfielder signed for Villa from Wolves last summer in a deal of the region of £15 million.

In his first season he made 24 Premier League appearances and made a good impression in several games throughout.

His performance against Newcastle United was top class, for example.

In spite of some positive performances, Agbonlahor thinks that he should depart the club.

The Belgian had been linked to Fenerbahce but a deal wasn’t completed prior to the end of the transfer window.

There was one reason, he felt Dendoncker had been kept: “The only good thing about Dendoncker is that we are short on centre-backs.

“With the injury to Mings, he could play in there as well as in midfield. He could also get minutes in the Europa Conference League as a squad player.”

With that being said, Agbonlahor isn’t for keeping him.

“If he wants to play football, Villa have to let him go.

“He’s not at the standard that is needed for us right now.”

Dendoncker is a very useful squad player and won’t leave the club until at least January now.

It didn’t appear that he was trying to force through a move and with potentially 50+ games this season, a squad is needed.
