Aston Villa fans made their fury known to Jamie Carragher after his comments about the club’s success this season.
Unai Emery’s side have been flying high since the manager took charge last year. Not only is Villa Park seeing European football for the first time in over a decade, but they also sit fourth in the Premier League.
This has seen many pundits view the club as a possible title contender this season as they sit five points off first-place Liverpool. Despite a recent dip in form which saw the side crash out of the FA Cup, many fans are optimistic about what is to come.
However, this optimism is not shared among the wider football community. Jamie Carragher recently published an article online which has seen widespread backlash from Villa fans.
Jamie Carragher insists Aston Villa have to “savour” current campaign

With Villa flying high at the moments, Carragher insists that these moments need to be “savoured” by fans rather than become the expectation.
Aston Villa have every chance this season of coming away with a European trophy and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since the 1982/83 season. However, while many clubs might see this as something to build on, Carragher believes this might be Villa’s peak.
One segment of his story in the Telegraph stated: “If Aston Villa finish in the top four and win the Europa Conference League this season, it would be wiser to savour it as if it is the peak of a glorious Unai Emery reign, not necessarily a taste of what’s to come”
Carragher went on to suggest Villa may be better suited to being “underdogs” if they were to fail in the upcoming visit of Manchester United.
“Recent evidence suggests they may be a team more suited to being underdogs,” he said.
“On December 22, Villa could have gone top of the league had they beaten Sheffield United at home. They drew 1-1. Since then, they have dropped a further eight points, including squandering a two-goal lead to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
“Emery’s thrilled reaction to the goals in the emphatic 5-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend underlined he is trying to lead the team out of a rut. The manner of the Chelsea defeat was a concern. If they fail against United, those chasing will sense they can be reeled in.”
As a result, the article has received a lot of backlash from furious Villa fans. One fan took to X (formally Twitter) to say: “Carra hates villa, not a big shocker that.”
Another fan also stated their disapproval of Carragher’s comments as he said: “@Carra23 more reactive to a recent result than a villa fan and thats really something!”
The project at Aston Villa is just getting started

Despite Carragher’s comments, there is no reason to believe that Aston Villa will be slowing down any time soon.
The club has been on the up for years, with the dark days of Championship football well behind them.
The squad is one of the best they have had in years which boasts international players from all over the world, including Brazil and England.
While it is inevitable that many clubs below them will improve over time such as Chelsea and Man United, there is no evidence to suggest that could cause Emery’s side to fall off.
