Former Aston Villa manager, Dean Smith has lumped praise on Ezri Konsa following his first call-up to the senior England national team.

Following some great form for Aston Villa, Ezri Konsa has been called up to the England national setup by Gareth Southgate.

Under the tutelage of Unai Emery, the centre-back has improved leaps and bounds and become a top player.

With him partnering with Tyrone Mings and now Pau Torres, he has been part of a solid defence under the Spaniard.

Fans have been wondering how he had missed out on so many England squad announcements and now he has got his chance.

What has Dean Smith said about Ezri Konsa?

Following promotion to the Premier League, Konsa was one of the signings in the summer made by Smith’s side.

Alongside the other 11 signings made that summer, Konsa was able to make a positive impact.

He has since been able to establish himself as one of the most important players for the Villans in recent seasons.

The manager who signed him, Smith, has been discussing the former Brentford man while on BBC 5 Live.

Opening up about Konsa, he said: “I’ve been banging his drum for a while. He’s a top lad and a top player.

“I watch him now in Unai’s team and the go-to players are Martinez, Konsa, McGinn and Watkins through the spin of the team.”

Even when the Villa fan manager was with the club, the Englishman was getting better and has continued on that path.

Continuing on, Smith added: “He’s so consistent, he’s unruffled and he’s deserved his call-up.”

He has been superb this season. His presence on the ball, paired with his constant improvement in a defensive sense has earned him a call-up.

Fans in B6 will be happy to see yet another Villa star get some recognition on the international stage.
