Villarreal club president, Fernando Roig has claimed that reports are incorrect about fees received for transfers, including Aston Villa’s move for Pau Torres.
Torres joined Villa for £35 million over the summer. He came in as a highly anticipated signing given his pedigree in La Liga.
So far he has made a good impression with his performances, breaking club records for passes made in a game vs Crystal Palace.
Despite having a tough start to life in England, coming off the bench as the Villains were smashed 5-1 by Newcastle United.
He has left that in the past and gone from strength to strength. Alongside Ezri Konsa, he has contributed to four clean sheets.
For the price paid, in today’s market, he has proved to be a bargain.
Enforced by the fact Jamie Carragher referred to him as “unbelievable”, earlier on in the season.

What has been said by Fernando Roig?
There have been reports that the Yellow Submarine made upwards of £100 million from sales this summer.
With the sales of stars like Torres, Nicolas Jackson and Samuel Chukwueze there have been some big-name outgoings.
In spite of this, Roig has stated the reports are not true: “We have sold for a significant amount. We have not earned anywhere near what is said. Villarreal has not earned 100 million euros.”
His club have never been shy to sell players when the time comes. They even complied to let Unai Emery go last season.
Speaking further with AS, he said: “We don’t sell, but there are times when the footballer’s path is to go out.
“This summer they came to buy. We have received offers for players who wanted to leave and look for a better opportunity, and it was also beneficial for all parties.”
It goes to show that Villa paid a fair fee for Torres and that they weren’t being messed around with.
The Villarreal president wasn’t denying that he had sold some great players for high fees but disputed the total amount.
Discussing the total, he added: “We have sold for a significant amount, but we have not earned anywhere near what is said. Villarreal has not earned 100 million euros.”
It is clear what Roig thinks of the stories. It is different to hear a club official be so outspoken over this kind of issue.
