Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz has been called up to the Brazil national team for the first time in two years. He has been praised by Fernando Diniz.

So far this season, Aston Villa have been in top form and many players have been deserving of international call-ups.

Under Unai Emery, Douglas Luiz has been one of, if not the, most improved players in the Villa squad.

With his excellent performances at the heart of the Villains’ midfield, it doesn’t come as a surprise he has been recognised.

Alongside Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn, he has formed an excellent trio that has been an immovable object.

What has Fernando Diniz said about Douglas Luiz?

Following the announcement of the Brazilian team for the upcoming international break, Diniz was full of praise for Luiz.

The interim head coach, Diniz, spent his whole playing career in Brazil. He has also gone on to manage 13 different teams.

In his squad announcement press conference, with Globo.com, he opened up about Luiz: “Douglas is one of the highlights of the Premier League. He’s a player who’s been monitored here for a long time. He’s been in the first team, an Olympic champion.

“I’ve known him since he was very young and he’s going through the best moment of his career. It’s a well-deserved call-up.”

The Villa man hasn’t been called up since 2021 and missed out on the 2022 World Cup squad last winter.

2023 has provided the former Manchester City man a new chance to get involved with the international setup.

Continuing to discuss the midfielder, Diniz said: “He’s a player with a lot of character and has everything it takes to start a new era with the national team.”

It has to be said that having yet another Villain on the international stage is what fans want to see. Many fans will hope other stars like Ezri Konsa and Jacob Ramsey can follow.
