In a live stream this weekend, Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz has made a statement regarding his side and the title race…

It has been a superb season for Aston Villa and they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down as they sit in third place.

This weekend, Unai Emery’s side travel to face Brentford with a whole host of players missing from the squad.

With that being said, the Villans fell behind on the brink of halftime as Keane Lewis Potter opened the scoring.

After a red card for Ben Mee, Villa came back to secure all three points. Alex Moreno’s first Premier League goal was added to by Ollie Watkins’ ninth league goal of the season.

This saw Villa move four points clear of Manchester City and are on level points with Liverpool in second place in the Premier League.

Despite not featuring due to suspension, Douglas Luiz watched the game and commented post-match.

What has Douglas Luiz said?

In recent weeks, on his Twitch page, Luiz has done multiple live-streams which Villa fans have been tuning in to. This is despite the fact he speaks his native Portuguese throughout.

In one moment following the game, the Brazilian replied to a message in his chat regarding the Villans’, title credentials.

On that, the Villa star said: “We can win the league, of course.”

This hard-fought win was enough to cement Villa’s place in the top four even further and keep them in the title race. With Man City and Liverpool only managing draws, Emery’s side were able to take advantage of the dropped points.

As a result of this, Villa moved clear of Pep Guardiola’s side and level with Jurgen Klopp’s men. It must be said that Arsenal’s win sees them sit a point ahead of Villa with 17 games played.

With that being said, fans in B6 are starting to believe as their hopes of a title race grow. Luiz is also showing that optimism, so why shouldn’t fans?

With John McGinn’s ban on title chat, Luiz may not be in the good books but a little bit of hope can’t hurt this squad. Given the quality that the team has shown so often this season, the title isn’t completely out of their reach right now.

There is a long way to go but given where Villa have been in the past, dreaming of a title can’t hurt…
