Aston Villa sure did splash the cash in the summer transfer window – but it has paid off.
Unai Emery spent big in the last transfer window, but now he’s certainly reaping the rewards. The likes of Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby were brought in for big bucks, however, he also did get many for free.
Youri Telemans was added to the squad, alongside Nicolo Zaniolo on loan. A very successful summer, which is now reflected in their superb Premier League position.
One of these signings broke the club-record fee at Villa Park but turned out to be a worthy investment – as they could now sell him for much more.

Moussa Diaby’s price has rocketed
The electric French winger has been a fine pickup for the Villans. On the 22nd of July 2023, Diaby joined Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee, rejecting a move to the Saudi Pro League, which was reported to be a club-record £51.9m, reuniting with former PSG manager, Emery.
He was thought to be a little bit of a risk with such a hefty price tag on his back, however, he’s more than proven his weight in gold.
According to CIES Football Observatory, published on 04/01/2024, Diaby is now worth a whopping €88.1M (£75.7m). That’s a £23.8m rise, which as of the time of writing this article, is just 170 days.
He also trumps some of world football’s best regarding value. This includes Bruno Fernandes, Eder Militao and Leroy Sane.
Unai Emery made some great deals in the summer, now January?
Alongside, Diaby – Pau Torres’ price also has skyrocketed in his short time at the club.
Emery has proven more than trustworthy with his acquisitions, so now begs the question – who will he sign in January?
There are a number of rumours circulating, but it looks like a striker and a right-back are on top of his wishlist.
It will be interesting to see what formulates in the coming weeks.
