In a recent article by Milo Pope, Aston Villa have been graded an A for their season so far with plenty of praise levelled at the Villans’ start.

It is safe to say it has been a great season so far for Aston Villa with them currently sat in fifth place, just three points off top spot.

The revolution under Unai Emery has been clear for all to see considering he took over an underperforming, relegation-threatened side.

With their performances being noticed this season, plenty of praise has been targeted at the Villans for their upturn in fortune.

They are currently unbeaten at home and have lost just three games on the road, a terrific start to the campaign.

This international break has given fans a chance to take stock and review just how good Emery’s men have been.

What has Milo Pope said about Aston Villa?

As a result of the international break, the Daily Mail has reviewed each Premier League team’s start to the season.

With nearly a third of the season gone, the table is starting to look true to what it will at the end.

Discussing their season so far, Milo Pope has said: “Aston Villa have been a breath of fresh air so far this season as they sit just three points off first place.

“The Birmingham side have the second-best attack in the league after scoring 29 goals. They are also fourth in taking the most shots with 179, sitting behind only Spurs, Man City and Liverpool.”

It is safe to say that the Villans have been an attacking force so far this season. With Moussa Diaby, Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey, Emery has some firepower at his disposal.

Quality is also coming from midfield, with the form of John McGinn and the introduction of Youri Tielemans.

With that being said, this season hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows due to the three losses Villa have suffered.

Against Forest, Liverpool and Newcastle United, the Villans suffered defeats where they were very poor.

This has been noted by Pope: “However, there is cause for concern with Villa’s defence this season, as showcased in their 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

“Emery’s men have only managed to keep two clean sheets so far. They are also, slightly worryingly, joint-third for missing the most number of big chances with 23.”

A clean sheet hasn’t been kept since the away victory over Chelsea in September which isn’t good enough. With that being said they haven’t conceded more than one in the league when they have won a game.

A great season so far, rated an A by Pope, and long may the great form continue.
