You are hoping the luck returns for Aston Villa after the international break.

The injuries are starting to pile up for Unai Emery and it’s the last thing Aston Villa needs given that they also have to balance having to play Champions League football.

Aston Villa recorded a drab goalless draw against Manchester United on Sunday, with several players missing through injury.

Amadou Onana, John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey were absent, alongside long-term absentees Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings.

On top of that, Ezri Konsa proceeded to go off against Manchester United and he will now miss England’s latest set of fixtures.

In truth, if you asked the Aston Villa fans, they don’t mind that, simply because it allows Konsa to rest up, recoup and then return in a few weeks when the fixture list piles up again for the team.

But you can now add another name to that list and it’s a bit of a forgotten name in B6.

Robin Olsen injured

Emi Martinez is Villa’s undisputed number one, with Robin Olsen the number two, but he is yet to feature this season.

Despite the lack of game time at club level, Olsen is Sweden’s number one, but he won’t be heading to international duty this week.

Sweden’s official website posted that Olsen is ‘unable to join’ due to injury and is focusing on rehabilitation.

Joe Gauci’s chance to impress again for Aston Villa

With Olsen injured, it has opened the door for January signing Joe Gauci to earn more minutes when Martinez is rested.

Villa beat League One side Wycombe in the League Cup last month and it opened the door for Gauci to make his debut.

The 24-year-old impressed and perhaps showed that he is worthy of being Villa’s number two instead of Olsen.

Villa will play Crystal Palace later on this month in the EFL Cup and you sense Emery will make wholesale changes again, with Gauci in with a chance to prove himself again.
