Aston Villa walked out 4-1 winners in Holland, but following the game fans are all talking about Robbie Savage.

A game which pre-match, many assumed would be one of the trickiest games of the tournament for Aston Villa ended up being quite the opposite.

Leon Bailey put the Villains 1-0 up early in the 13th minute. In the 23rd it was Youri Tielemans who made a contribution to silence critics.

Unai Emery‘s side then wrapped it up within 15 minutes of the second half starting.

Goals from both Ollie Watkins and John McGinn made it four prior to a consolation goal from Ibrahim Sadiq for the home side.

But after the game, fans were all amazed by TNT pundit Robbie Savage, who seems to have gone sweet on the Villa.

Villa fans on Savage

Usually quite blunt on Villa due to his Blues ties, Savage was unusually positive about the Villa which left fans to read on social media.

One fan couldn’t believe it, writing on X: “Robbie Savage is actually saying nice things about Villa, what alternative universe is this!”

Another found it funny hearing a former Blue endorsing Emery’s side: “It’s funny hearing Robbie Savage waxing lyrical and in awe of how we play”.

A third, thought Savage was actually praising the Villains through gritted teeth: “Robbie Savage nearly crying bigging up Villa”.

Just how good are Unai Emery’s side?

This victory in Europe was Villa’s second consecutive 4-1 win on the bounce, after the demolition of West Ham on Sunday.

It was the third time Villa have scored four or more in the last five games.

Another impressive stat is that’s five unbeaten, this bodes well for further success this season.

Well in the race for Champions League football next season, also we are undoubtedly among the favourites to win the Conference League too.

We aren’t surprised Savage is full of praise, simply too good not to.
