Aston Villa fans are all saying the same thing after suffering pre-season defeat to Club America.

On Saturday night, Aston Villa concluded their pre-season tour of the United States with a third consecutive loss.

Unai Emery’s side fell short to Mexican side Club America, losing 1-0 to end their time in the States having played three games and recorded three defeats.

Pre-season is a time for trial and error however, with the Premier League season drawing closer, fans will want to start to see more from the squad.

From lack of chances created to worrying depth in defence, it’s been a time for reflection ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, giving Emery indications of where his side must improve.

With only two more non-competitive challenges coming before the season opener against West Ham, now is the time for adjustments to be made.

While the trio of defeats in the United States are disappointing, fans are calling for more than just a better level of performance, as one concern came to light against Club America.

Aston Villa fans call for more signings after pre-season defeat to Club America

Aside from the unconvincing displays, it’s a greater presence in the transfer market that Villa fans are calling for.

Despite welcoming seven new faces already, supporters have made it clear that the squad is calling out for further assistance before the season starts.

Fans took to X to react to the result, with many sharing the opinion that Emery needs several further signings before deadline day.

One supporter said, “Clearly we need to move in the transfer market. Centre back, forward and another winger,” as another agreed with, “Emery looked worried. Villa definitely need a CB and a big signing in the front.”

Other fans focused on the need to bolster Villa’s options in attack, as a supporter reacted with, “More depth up top needed,” and “We definitely need another forward option.”

While most fans shared the opinion that more new players are required, some called on fellow supporters to trust in the manager’s plan.

“Yes, we need a CB and striker before the month is over. Villa will get both. Relax. Unai will sort it out. Remember how bad it was under Gerrard?”

Commenting on the performance, another said, “Chill peeps this is nowhere near our first team and maybe more signings on the way.”

Other fans made it clear that Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz still need replacing after leaving the club this summer.

One supporter said, “We definitely need a few in. Only a friendly I know, but Diaby needs replacing,” while another fan took a more direct approach by addressing Monchi.

“The team has weakened, Monchi wasted the window with discards from other teams, instead of improving the squad he filled it with players who do not improve what there was. Douglas and Diaby have not been able to replace themselves and there is no defence.”

Villa fans are right to be concerned

Losing the likes of Luiz and Diaby improved Villa’s financial situation however, significantly weakened the quality within the squad.

Last season, the pair alone contributed to 39 goals in all competitions, telling of what Emery will be missing next term.

After seeing the lack of chances that Villa created against Club America and throughout their tour of the States, it’s understandable why fans are calling for more activity in the market.

Aside from replenishing going forward, defensive depth is another significant issue, with there being a huge lack of central defensive options, as seen in pre-season.

It’s been a busy summer for Monchi and Emery and it could get a lot busier if the duo share the opinion of the club’s supporters.
