All things considered, it has been a strong start to the season for Aston Villa.

Jhon Duran is scoring goals for fun and the team has lost only one game in all competitions, starting the Champions League road in the perfect fashion.

Yes, Aston Villa’s drab goalless draw against Manchester United on Sunday left many frustrated, but that week as a whole has been rather special.

It started with Aston Villa’s famous victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League and it was recently topped off with some unexpected contract news.

In today’s modern football, you hear the confirmed news about 20 times over because various journalists or broadcasters are already reporting about it well in advance.

But from Fabrizio Romano to David Ornstein, they didn’t report or know about Duran’s new deal at the Midlands side.

Villa announced on Monday that Duran has signed a new contract, which is music to the ears of supporters, especially given what went on in the summer and how he has performed since then.

The 20-year-old is now one of the most dangerous strikers in world football and those in B6 have him tied up until 2030.

Aston Villa’s director of football operations Damian Vidagany was pictured with Duran, alongside Unai Emery and Monchi when the news broke, and he then posted a message on Twitter.

Vidagany expressed his delight at this news and labelled Colombia’s new superstar as a ‘diamond’.

“Securing our Colombian diamond,” wrote Vidagany. “Jhon Duran 2030. Well deserved and in the right track! Now is time to stay humble, work even harder and keep the focus! UTV!”

The likes of Chelsea and West Ham will be kicking themselves now because Duran was there for the taking in the summer.

But now he is balling, on a new deal and good luck trying to lure him away from Villa Park now.

The best thing about all of this is that, either Duran does stay for the long term, or if he leaves, then the fans know it’s going to be for serious money.

And as fans saw with the sale of Jack Grealish to Manchester City, the club knows how to deal with a big sale and use that money wisely.
