Journalist, Dean Jones has opened up about Pau Torres and his start to life at Aston Villa and how he has adapted to the Premier League.

It has been a great season so far for Aston Villa which has seen many stars stand out amongst a top collective performance.

Under the stewardship of Unai Emery, the Villans have risen up the league faster than anyone could imagine. With recent wins over Manchester City, Arsenal and Brentford, they are flying high in third place in the Premier League.

In recent weeks, stars like John McGinn have shone and received praise from all corners of the footballing world. With that being said, there are other players that have performed well and contributed, but have slipped under the radar.

What has been said about Pau Torres?

It has to be said, since signing for £31.5m from Villareal, Pau Torres has been terrific at the heart of the Villa defence.

Speaking out, Dean Jones for Give Me Sport has praised the Spaniard for his start to life in the Premier League.

First, Jones picked out some others that have performed well to benefit the team. On that, he said: “I think Emery’s message, as dull as it sounds, rather than him pointing out key players, he’ll feel that everyone is a key player. But I think you have to look beyond just John McGinn and Ollie Watkins at this point and start to recognise traits of this team that have become really important.”

It is safe to say that McGinn and Watkins have both been top-class this season and are well deserving of a mention. They have both scored very important goals in recent weeks and have had a big impact on the side.

Secondly, Jones picked out Torres as an under-the-radar pick. Continuing, he added: “One of those, I’d say, would be the emergence of Pau Torres and kind of putting his early season troubles behind him and the doubts about whether he can handle the Premier League.

“His physicality was definitely something that people felt might be a problem. I don’t even think that that has been disproven, to be honest at this moment, but what Pau Torres has done is he’s established himself in a team and he’s got an understanding of the system that means that he’s thriving.”

Alongside Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos, the Spaniard has helped to form a successful back line in B6. With Emi Martinez behind them, the Villans have a solid base. He has been one of the best signings this season and has improved Villa for sure.
