Love him or loathe him. Emiliano Martinez is a character of characters. Some can’t stop singing his name, whilst others think he is very high up on the annoying scale.
On Saturday, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, for the first time in their 149-year club history, won 15 consecutive home wins on the bounce by beating in-form Arsenal 1-0.
This comes days after the Midlands side put out a statement of all statements when they demolished and dominated Manchester City – Douglas Luiz was lauded by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.
One player at the heart of those victories has been Emiliano Martinez. Villa’s shot-stopper is officially the best goalkeeper in the world, for a reason.
But whilst the 31-year-old’s antics during the game, such as slowing the game down, left the Arsenal fans frustrated, he proved to be the ‘ultimate wind-up’ merchant after the game.
beIN SPORTS posted on their Twitter account of Emiliano Martinez kissing the Aston Villa badge after his side secured a brilliant victory against Mikel Arteta’s side, as you can see below.
Emiliano Martinez after Aston Villa beat Arsenal
Emi Martinez is better than Bernd Leno, Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya
There have been a fair few changes to Arsenal’s goalkeeping department in recent years.
Bernd Leno was the main guy when Martinez won the FA Cup with Arsenal, but the German was quickly replaced by Aaron Ramsdale.
That eventually led to Leno leaving and joining Fulham permanently, but now Ramsdale has got a taste of the medicine because he is on the bench and David Raya now has the gloves.
It could be argued that Martinez, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup and was one of his side’s most influential players, is perhaps better than the lot.
In fact, he is, as his Yashin Trophy proves!
