One of the great Aston Villa performances and one of the best-ever victories.
This is Treble-winners Manchester City and one of the greatest coaches of all time, Pep Guardiola.
Yet Unai Emery’s Aston Villa utterly dominated Manchester City at Villa Park on Wednesday night and deservedly secured a 1-0 win. They were lucky it wasn’t more.
Douglas Luiz was at the heart of Villa’s performance and he expressed his delight on Instagram at the win.
In the comments section of the midfielder’s IG post, he received plaudits from a number of his teammates, including his fellow countryman and Real Madrid star, Vinicius Jr, who labelled him a ‘player’.
The performance from Douglas Luiz was out of this world, and in truth, he deserved a goal to top it off, only to have one disallowed, the other hitting the flush of the post and Ederson pulling off a stunning point-blank save for the other.

Aston Villa move into third place in the Premier League table
As mentioned above, the scoreline doesn’t give the performance any justice. This was domination of the highest order.
Apart from two Erling Haaland efforts in the first half, which were brilliantly saved by Emiliano Martinez, the so-called champions of Europe didn’t have a single effort on our goal from that moment.
The midfield from Luiz to perhaps the Man of the Match, John McGinn, just well and truly bullied the entire Manchester City side.
Even after going 1-0 ahead, we probably should have scored a few more goals, as Emery continued to urge his players to play on the front foot and get at Man City’s throats.
That puts us third in the Premier League table, four points behind leaders Arsenal, who visit Villa Park on Saturday evening.
