Tyrone Mings could make an Aston Villa first-team squad for the first time in over a year when Unai Emery’s side travel to Fulham this weekend.
Mings last featured for Aston Villa in their 5-1 opening-day defeat to Newcastle United in August 2023 when the centre-back was stretched off with an ACL injury.
It’s been a long road to recovery for the Englishman but Mings returned to Villa training towards the end of August and played 45 minutes for the under-21s against Newcastle United.
Mings then appeared in a friendly for Aston Villa’s first team in a win over Sheffield Wednesday last week, with the centre-back poised to make the matchday squad this weekend, and he isn’t the only one.

Fulham vs Aston Villa team news
Boubacar Kamara is also in contention to make a matchday squad for the first time since February after he injured his ACL in a defeat to Manchester United.
Kamara returned to Aston Villa training at a similar time to Mings and played alongside the towering defender in the behind-closed-doors friendly against Wednesday.
The Frenchman was a vital cog in Unai Emery’s starting XI last term, with the Spaniard sharing a positive injury update on him, Mings, John McGinn, Ezri Konsa and Jaden Philogene ahead of the trip to Fulham.
“Kamara and Mings for this match they are available and are going to try with us for Fulham,” Emery said via Aston Villa’s X account.
“McGinn is training normally with us and he’s feeling good. Konsa as well is feeling good, Jaden is feeling good. I think it’s the first time this year we more or less have every player available.”
McGinn has been injured since the defeat to Wolves in September while Konsa withdrew from the England squad with an injury after coming off against Man United.
Philogene was also a doubt after suffering an injury while playing for England’s under-21s but he’s been confirmed as fit, which is a huge boost to Emery.
Emery has a selection dilemma on his hands
Mings sent a five-word message to Villa fans ahead of the trip to Fulham, teasing his return to action, and now it is a reality.
The towering Englishman will probably start on the bench with Konsa partnering Pau Torres in defence however, there is scope for him to play in the future weeks alongside Kamara.
With captain McGinn also available and Leon Bailey spotted in training, this potentially hands Emery a huge selection dilemma in the coming weeks.
Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana have formed an incredible midfield partnership but there is no doubt that Kamara can offer the defensive protection they’ve been missing centrally.

Following their trip to West London on Saturday, it’s Bologna on Tuesday night and Bournemouth next weekend for Aston Villa.
Rotation will be key during this period, so don’t be surprised if Mings and Kamara start in at least one of the next three matches.
