Tim Sherwood has lauded the qualities of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez following the goalless draw against Everton at Goodison Park.

It was a game full of chances and both teams will feel that they should have found the back of the net, especially Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing the best opportunity of the game.

In the first half, the Everton striker was put through on goal but was denied by Aston Villa’s man between the sticks who pulled off an outstanding save with his leg.

We have seen that before somewhere from Emiliano Martinez, that’s for sure!

The World Cup-winning star didn’t stop there because he then followed it up with a brilliant stop low down to his left.

It left Tim Sherwood really impressed and he made it clear that he would have Emiliano Martinez ‘over all of them’, as he told Premier League Productions (14/01/24 at 3:00 pm).

Yes, Unai Emery and Co. will be disappointed with the dropped points, but it was a much-needed clean sheet for the team and Villa’s £17 million signing played a big part in that.

“This goalkeeper, I asked Peter (Schmeichel) who is the best goalkeeper on show today? I would have this guy over all of them,” said Sherwood.

“Top draw. And those were two great saves.”

Level on points with Manchester City

That point keeps Villa in third place and level on points with second-placed Manchester City, who secured a stunning win at Newcastle United on Saturday.

The upcoming break is much-needed for the team because it allows injured players to return, and regular starters to rest their legs after a very gruelling first half of the campaign.

It’s Newcastle United up next in the Premier League, and if three points can be picked up, then this recent heavy schedule has been a very positive one.
