Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world for a reason!
Aston Villa’s number one enjoyed a successful ten or so days on the international circuit by helping Argentina beat Peru 2-0 and Paraguay 1-0 in their World Cup qualifies.
Those two clean sheets mean that Emiliano Martinez hasn’t conceded a goal since the World Cup final!
Pretty incredible because that adds up to 712 minutes of football without letting the ball hit the back of the net in the colours of Argentina – that’s a new record for his country, as posted by South American journalist Roy Nemer on Twitter.
That’s why he is a World Champion and that’s why he was named the best goalkeeper in the world.
Fans from across the world witnessed his brilliance in Qatar, from his stoppage-time saves to his penalty heroics.
But he clearly isn’t letting that be the end of it because the champions of the world want to take it up another level.

Pushing Villa forward
Whilst Martinez is breaking records for his country, there is one on the cards for Aston Villa ahead of the return of domestic football.
Unai Emery’s side have won ten Premier League games on the bounce at home – the all-time Premier League record is held by Manchester City, which is 13.
Villa face West Ham United on Sunday at Villa Park, with home games against Luton Town and Fulham following suit.
If those games result in maximum points, then, ironically enough, Villa can break the record against Man City of all teams.
