‘Public enemy number one’… The player Aston Villa fans did not want in starting XI vs Tottenham

Aston Villa fans are worried about one player in the starting eleven for the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa are currently fifth in the league table and would climb into the top three with a win against Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, defeat on Sunday afternoon would see Spurs reduce the gap between the two teams from five points to two.

It’s undoubtedly a huge game in the battle for the Champions League places, and some Villians supporters are concerned about one player in particular.

Aston Villa fans worried about Matty Cash vs Tottenham

Matty Cash is not liked by Tottenham fans. His reckless challenge against Rodrigo Bentancur last season saw the Argentine midfielder sidelined for several weeks.

The home crowd are likely to boo Cash throughout the match and, given he is susceptible to lapses in concentration anyway, Villa supporters are nervous.

Indeed, many took to Twitter to voice their concerns about Cash after Unai Emery’s lineup was confirmed.

One Villa fan said: “No rash decisions from Cash today. He is already public enemy number one with them so he needs to play with concentration and not give the crowd an excuse to influence the referee.”

Another wrote: “Only one thing worries me how Matty Cash will respond to the crowd being on his back after every touch of the ball he will either cope with it or give away multiple stupid fouls.”

“Matty will need to calm down today. He feels like we do about Spurs,” one fan added.

A Villa supporter posted: [Heung-Min] Son against Cash who is hated by everyone at Spurs will be the decider.”

“Love my team, but… Matty Cash over 0.5 penalties conceded. Already expecting it,” said another.

Should Unai Emery have dropped Matty Cash?

While Villa fans are understandably anxious about the challenges that Cash is expected to face against Tottenham, he is an experienced player who should be able to deal with them.

Of course, the more defensive-minded Diego Carlos or Ezri Konsa might be more equipped to deal with Son on Spurs’ left but Cash offers considerably more going forward.

Postecoglou’s side play with such freedom that their full-backs are often out of position, and Cash has the ability to exploit that.
