Morgan Rogers put in a performance of a lifetime during Aston Villa’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday at Villa Park.
You just wonder how Villa lost that game against Arsenal, both from the chances missed and the overall display of Rogers because he was unstoppable.
Ollie Watkins had a game to forget against Arsenal and he will still be kicking himself because he should have had a brace before Leandro Trossard’s opener.
But you presume the confidence levels of the England international and Rogers, heading into next week’s Leicester City game, is going to be far different.
Arsenal have one of the best midfields in the Premier League, with Thomas Partey and Declan Rice sitting behind captain Martin Odegaard.
But Rogers treated them like they were novices because time and time again they couldn’t stop his runs from midfield and how he danced past their team for fun.
Tim Sherwood labelled Villa’s January capture as a ‘superstar’ and how Villa have done ‘fantastic business’ to sign him.
Villa secured Rogers’ services from Middlesbrough in January for a fee that ‘cost £8 million’, but now that seems a bargain of the highest order.
Sherwood thinks the 22-year-old is now worth ‘£80 million’ and how he is only going to get ‘better and better’, as he told Premier League Productions (24/08/24).
Morgan Rogers’ transfer fee
“I like him, first and foremost, not just because he cost £8 million, by the way,” said Rogers. “He could be £80 million by the way he is playing.
“He gets into them sneak areas and he drives with the ball. He doesn’t break lines with his passing. He breaks lines with his dribbling ability. As a midfield player, once that ball gets played in behind you, if you are Declan Rice or Thomas Partey, and that ball gets played in behind. You have someone who breaks like this and wants to dribble and go to the heart of your defence. It can only cause the opposition problems.
“He has got a lot of confidence. This boy will be a superstar. I will say it again ‘£8 million’. Fantastic business. He is getting better and better. Top draw that boy.”

Trust Ollie Watkins
Declan Rice recently hailed Watkins after he was named in the PFA’s Team of the Season for the recent campaign and that’s where he needs to be trusted.
Those who have watched Watkins’ game know that he always has an issue with missing big chances and the Arsenal game was no different.
But it won’t be too long before he is firing in those goals again because he is one of the first names on the teamsheet for a reason.
Villa are in the Champions League this season and Watkins played the most important role in it all, so the fans will continue to get behind him as he tries to pick up his form again.
