Aston Villa eased to a 3-0 Champions League win over Young Boys on Tuesday to mark their return with a bang.

Given that it was Aston Villa‘s venture into the big time after a long time, you naturally expected a few hiccups or difficulties.

But there was none of that from Unai Emery and his players, who in the end, outclassed the Swiss champions in their backyard.

It was an early kick-off for Villa, which meant that by the full-time whistle, they were top of the newly-formed Champions League table and it delighted Gabby Agbonlahor on Twitter.

The former striker described it as a ‘comfortable’ win, with Youri Tielemans, Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana getting on the scoresheet.

Aston Villa have won three out of their four Premier League matches and now the perfect start in Europe’s elite competition.

There is still a long way to go, but those early doubts have been put away, and remember, pre-season didn’t go as planned with the team suffering four defeats.

One man who could argue that he has probably been Villa’s best player is Tielemans – and he won Man of the Match in Bern.

Agbonlahor called him ‘outstanding’ for his efforts and Villa aren’t missing Douglas Luiz because of what the Belgian star is producing.

“Outstanding tonight,” wrote Agbonlahor about Tielemans. “Comfortable win! Top of the Champions League table.”

Aston Villa v Wolves

What was interesting is that Emery didn’t make any changes and named the same XI that secured a comeback win against Everton over the weekend.

But will he do the same for this weekend against Wolves? Players are knocking on the door to start.

Ollie Watkins still appears to be injured and you sense this is now the time to start Jhon Duran because he has been gunning for those minutes.

Not forgetting that, in a few weeks, Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara will be back in the matchday squad after their long-term injuries.
