Emi Martinez now claims one Aston Villa player can become ‘one of the best’ in the world after securing a dramatic 3-2 win over Everton.

A pulsating Premier League contest played out at Villa Park on Saturday evening as Aston Villa came from behind to beat Everton late on.

Unai Emery would have been disappointed in the early stages as Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave the Toffees a two-goal cushion against the run of play.

Fortunately, Aston Villa quickly responded in the first half through Ollie Watkins, who scored a header unmarked before equalising the match early in the second period.

Emery was then praying one of his players produced a moment of magic from the bench and for the third time this season, Jhon Duran rose to the occasion to score a rocket into the top corner.

Emi Martinez was left stunned by Duran’s winner against Everton and has now explained how he can become one of the best strikers in the world.

Emi Martinez says how Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran can become ‘one of the best’ in the world

Villa are so lucky that they have a talent of Duran’s level on their hands as the 20-year-old continues to go from strength to strength in claret and blue.

Once more, he was very unfortunate to remain on the bench on Saturday evening but the youngster didn’t let that setback affect him and he did what he does best.

Ollie Watkins dubbed Duran as having ‘so much ability’ after he scored the incredible winning goal, with Martinez offering some words of advice to his ‘special’ teammate.

Lauding his strike as ‘unstoppable’, as per BBC Sport, the Villa goalkeeper thinks he can become ‘one of the best’ in the world if he keeps his feet on the ground and works hard.

“I have seen it from behind and I saw the ball moving – it was unstoppable.

“It was a great strike, we have been trying to held Duran in the Premier League and if he can keep the consistency he can be a really big threat.

“He can be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs to keep his feet on the ground and to work hard.

“He has one of the top strikers [Ollie Watkins] in England playing in front of him.”

Jhon Duran’s exceptional Aston Villa record

Martinez is right; if he works hard and stays grounded, Duran has every tool in his locker to become one of the best on the planet, perhaps close to the level of Erling Haaland.

Still only 20, Duran’s record speaks volumes about his precocious talent as he’s now scored eight goals for Aston Villa despite just starting three games in the Premier League.

This season, he’s scoring at a rate of one goal every 33 minutes in the top flight and no one comes close to that level of efficiency.

Across the last two campaigns in the Premier League, meanwhile, he’s scoring one goal every 70 minutes. For someone of his age, that is an obscene level; one that some of the greatest players in world football can’t emulate.
