It won’t be too long before Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers is making his senior debut for England.
Some feel that the all-action Aston Villa star probably deserved a call-up to Lee Carsley’s first squad this month, but he missed the cut.
Rogers has started the new Premier League season strongly and has continued that form for the England U21s on Monday evening.
England U21s beat Austria U21 4-1, with Rogers netting a brace, including a well-taken penalty and he got plaudits from many players for his latest performance.
It’s interesting that he took a penalty given that Villa fans are wondering who their regular penalty-taker will be this season.
Douglas Luiz left Villa for Juventus this summer and he was the regular penalty-taker last season, with that door now open.
You would assume Unai Emery – or whoever decides – made the call on Villa’s main penalty-taker before a ball was kicked this season.
But it’s great to see Rogers adding another string to his bow, with his second goal being an outstanding finish into the top corner.
Rogers did his ‘cold’ celebration when scoring his goals and the man who has adopted it at Chelsea – Cole Palmer – reacted in the comments section of his Instagram post, alongside many other players, including Carney Chukwuemeka.

Palmer simply wrote ‘Brrr’, added with a cold-faced emoji and Chukwuemeka added that he is ‘elite’.
Samuel Illing Jr, who also started alongside Rogers, told his club teammate ‘Really like that’, with Noni Madueke telling him that it’s ‘too easy’.
Manchester City’s James McAtee, who also scored alongside Rogers, told the Villa man ‘A pleasure’, as Alex Scott called him ‘Kaka’.
Morgan Rogers in the Champions League
Aston Villa will be in Champions League action after the international break, including a mouthwatering home clash against Bayern Munich.
This is Rogers’ chance to break into England’s senior squad by producing on that stage and taking his game to another level.

Rogers has been a bargain buy for Villa and many feel this is a season where he can truly explode because he has everything in his locker to do so.
It’s also a big plus that he has serious competition around him because he will need to be kept on his toes.
